Eric De Wames, Employment Law Trial Attorney and SHRM California Legislative Director

Employment law is shaped not only in courtrooms and government agencies, but also through the legislative and regulatory process—often before employers realize changes are coming.
Drawing from his work defending employers across the country, Eric De Wames will provide a timely overview of developments involving case law and legislative trends including return to work, PAGA,  DEI, AI and other employment-related issues emerging in his practice. He will share the trends he is seeing on the front lines, and where employers may be encountering increased risk.
Eric will also bring his perspective as CalSHRM Legislative Counsel Leader to explain how employment regulations are developed, when public and professional input matters, and how SHRM members can become more involved. Attendees will learn how HR professionals can move beyond reacting to new requirements and help bring a practical employer perspective into the regulatory process.
